"Blazin' Axes Softball Tournament" Helps Injured Paramedic

HURRICANE, WV - On Saturday, August 15th, 2015, the members of Hurricane Volunteer Fire Department hosted the "Blazin' Axes Softball Tournament" to benefit one of Putnam County's own, Paramedic James Barham, who was critically injured in an off-duty accident at this residence in July. Teams from across the region gathered at Hurricane Valley Park to battle against each other for the benefit of Barham. Many of the teams included first responders from other area agencies.

From Putnam County, members of Hurricane Volunteer Fire Department, Poca Community Volunteer Fire Department and Teays Valley Volunteer Fire Department were in attendance. Teams from Putnam County were joined by a team from Kanawha County, which was largely made up of Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority employees, and another local team comprised of various others that joined in on the fun to support a great cause. In addition to the proceeds that were collected by teams, the Hurricane Volunteer Fire Department's Auxillary members hosted a bake sale in which all proceeds were donated to Paramedic Barham.

Event organizer, Hurricane Volunteer Fire Department's Brent Reed says, "It was great to see everybody come out to support a brother."

Congratulations to all that participated! Great job!!
